Terms agreed: Rangers to announce major transfer on Monday – report
Rangers are set to announce the signing of Aberdeen star Scott Wright in the next 24 hours after agreeing pre-contract terms, according to the Scottish Sun.
Wright has been linked with a move to Ibrox throughout January with the Daily Record reporting earlier in the month that he could move in the current transfer window after rejecting fresh terms at Pittodrie.
His contract expires in June 2021 and so he has been free to discuss a deal with other clubs and Rangers have been earmarked as his most likely destination.
Steven Gerrard will get his man with Sun Sport exclusively revealing that the Gers have agreed a three-year deal with Wright who will sign on the dotted line in the next 24 hours.
That report was published on Sunday night meaning the deal should be announced on Monday.
It appears the 23-year-old will be staying at Aberdeen for the rest of the current campaign, however, with Dons boss Derek McInnes keen to retain him in their pursuit of a European spot this season.
That is despite Gerrard admitting he is keen to bring Wright through the door in January in a move that would be a “boost” to the Scottish Premiership runaway leaders.
Five-star Gers show Wright can wait
Gerrard was obviously hopeful of securing his services in the current window but it is not something that is of urgent concern with his side still in sparkling form.
They endured a momentary blip last weekend when they drew at Motherwell but their performance at Ibrox on Saturday showed it was just that as they thrashed Ross County 5-0 to extend their lead at the top to 23 points.
A host of Gers stars shone as they eased past their visitors and it brought up game number 25 without defeat for the Light Blues in the Premiership as they start to eye a season of invincibility.
They certainly showed there is no desperate requirement to bring Wright in imminently with a gluttony of goals showcasing their domestic dominance this season.
With Kemar Roofe and Ryan Jack returning to the first-team after recent injury absences the squad looks to be in great shape ahead of the defining months of the season.
In other Rangers news, Gerrard hails Ryan Jack goal as one of his favourites this season.
