SFA drop charges against Michael Gardyne following alleged Rangers abuse – report
The SFA have dropped all charges against Ross County’s Michael Gardyne following allegations that he verbally abused Rangers players, according to The Scottish Sun.
Gardyne was cited by the SFA for using abusive language during December’s 4-0 loss to the Gers in which a scuffle broke out just before half time.
Several Rangers players complained to the referee and accused Gardyne of saying something untoward to one of Steven Gerrard’s players.
On Monday, The Scottish Sun claimed that the SFA have now dropped all charges against the Staggies player with the case due to be heard in just three days time.
No reason has been disclosed as of yet for why the charges have been dropped, though an internal Ross County investigation cleared Gardyne of any wrongdoing shortly after the December match.
Gerrard was quoted by an earlier report from The Scottish Sun as saying that what his players alleged Gardyne said was ‘very serious’.
Without the case being heard by the SFA we may never know what actually went on during that game and what may or may not have been said.
It is doubtful that so many Rangers players would have reacted in the manner they did if nothing was said by Gardyne but without any admission or proof that he actually said what has been alleged, it is simply his word against the words of the Gers players.
Until the SFA give a reason for why the charges were dropped it is impossible to tell why his case will no longer be heard.
It could be because there is simply no evidence or independent testimony that can prove what was said either way.
Whatever the case, there is no room for verbal abuse of any kind in football and we hope that no more cases like this occur in future.
