‘Send him packing’, ‘Pish’ – Many Rangers fans blast 28-year-old, want him gone in summer

Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to express their concern about the long-term future of loanee Bongani Zungu.

Zungu, 28, joined the Gers in October on a loan-to-buy basis from French Ligue 2 club Amiens. Steven Gerrard is not obliged to sign the South Africa international permanently as the club announced that the loan deal only includes an “option” to buy him.

However, Zungu has struggled for regular game-time at Ibrox.

He came off the bench on Saturday as Rangers beat Ross County 5-0 in Govan but that was only his 13th appearance for the club across all competitions and he’s yet to start in the Premiership.

In fact, Zungu has only started three games since his arrival in Scotland in October and one of those games saw the Light Blues dumped out of the Scottish Cup by St Mirren.

Zungu’s failed to complete 90 minutes in any match for the Gers and a section of fans are now worried that he does not have what it takes to win a permanent deal at Ibrox in the summer when his loan expires.

One fan has even urged the Premiership leaders to “send him packing” at the end of the season.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

We really don’t know what to say about Zungu because it would be unfair to have such a strong opinion on a player we haven’t seen too much of.

However, if Gerrard is seeing him every day in training, it’s pretty clear that the South African isn’t impressing enough to get in the starting line-up.

If the Premiership title is wrapped up early then we may get to see more of Zungu before the club makes a decision on whether to buy him permanently from Amiens.

But in the meantime, Zungu needs to have a much greater impact on proceedings when he comes on in the second half of games because he has a lot of competition for a spot in the midfield – especially now Ryan Jack is back from injury.
