‘It will hurt most Celtic fans to admit it, but…’ – Sir Kenny Dalglish makes Rangers admission
Celtic legend Sir Kenny Dalglish admits that Steven Gerrard has “built something special” at Rangers but claims the Ibrox giants still have work to do.
Rangers moved 23 points clear of Celtic at the top of the Premiership on Saturday with a routine 5-0 win against struggling Ross County at Ibrox.
The Light Blues have avoided defeat in all of their league fixtures this season and, in total, have dropped just six points.
Rangers have also won both of the Old Firm derbies and Dalglish concedes that there has been a very positive transformation at Ibrox since Gerrard took charge.
Writing on the Sunday Post website, the ex-Liverpool and Celtic player said: “Steven Gerrard has built something special over a period of time, and it has all clicked into place in the past six months.
“It will hurt most Celtic fans to admit it, but Rangers have been brilliant this season, and the Light Blues supporters must be loving it all right now.
“Steven is taking the club in the right direction and it appears, on and off the park, that they are getting stronger and stronger.
“But they still have work to do.
“There is chat about trying to go through the Premiership season unbeaten.
“That kind of achievement is all fine and well.
“But the greatest and most-satisfying achievement is just to win the title.”
Above and beyond
We don’t want to talk about the title being wrapped up already but why can’t we talk about going the league season unbeaten?
We’re 23 points ahead at the top of the Premiership with just three draws in 25 matches and only seven goals conceded. It is not beyond the realms of possibility to go unbeaten.
Sure, priority number one is winning the league mathematically and the sooner we do that the better but there’s no harm in talking about going unbeaten on our way to title number 55.
Has anyone really looked capable of beating us this season, anyway?
Yes, we still have to play Celtic and Aberdeen again and they’re the only two sides that could, on paper, stand a chance of ending the unbeaten run but they haven’t come close to beating us this season.
Hibernian are the only ones who look as though they’ve come close in the league while St Mirren managed it in the Betfred Cup.
We don’t fear those teams but we do fear upsets because they can happen any time.
But aiming to go unbeaten is a worthy target, in our opinion. Simply because why not?
