Ibrox View: Returning Rangers ace shows Gerrard what he’s been missing v Ross County

Ryan Jack showed just what Steven Gerrard has been missing as he made his Rangers return in the 5-0 win against Ross County.

The 28-year-old had missed his side’s last nine Scottish Premiership games before he made a goalscoring return against the Staggies on Saturday.

Jack, a second-half substitute, finished off a fine Gers move as he fired low past Ross Laidlaw to grab his first goal of the season.

While not being known for his attacking prowess, Jack was excellent going forward as largely he didn’t have a lot of defending to do.

County offered very little going forward but when Jack was called on to stop an attack from the away side he duly delivered.

The stats show just how impressive Jack was during his 32-minute spell against Ross County.

According to Wyscout, Jack won 100% of his defensive duels against the Staggies as he showed that his lengthy spell on the sidelines had not effected his quality.

Jack’s passing was a joy to behold as well as he completed 92% of his attempted passes on Saturday.

Going forward Jack was similarly impressive as he took his goal very well but he could’ve had another with the 28-year-old managing to get both of his shots on target.

Jack’s heatmap shows that he was absolutely everywhere as, even though the game was won when he came on, the midfielder worked hard to make sure his side kept another clean sheet.

Jack outperformed Joe Aribo on Saturday as he made a strong case to be selected ahead of the Nigerian midfielder.

Though Aribo also scored, he only completed 83% of his passes compared to Jack’s 92%, as per Wyscout.

He also only won 50% of his defensive duels as opposed to Jacks 100%, even though Aribo is a more attack-minded midfielder you expect better from him.

Overall, 91% of Jack’s actions were successful against Ross County as he barely put a foot wrong.

If he continues to improve following his recovery then he could prove to once again be key for Gerrard as we hunt down the title.
