‘What a player’, ‘Love him’ – Many Rangers fans swoon over ‘Scandinavian Maldini’ v Staggies
Many Rangers fans have claimed that Filip Helander should start every game for the Gers following his performance against Ross County.
The Swede played a huge part in the win over the Staggies as he scored the second of three first-half Rangers goals.
It was Helander’s first Scottish Premiership appearance since the 2-0 win against St Mirren in late December and he certainly gave Steven Gerrard something to think about with his upcoming team selections.
The defender was excellent at the back as he partnered Connor Goldson while the Gers collected yet another win and another clean sheet.
The win propelled the Light Blues 23 points clear at the top of the table and Helander’s efforts at both ends of the pitch played a huge role.
Nothing got past him as he showed intelligence to anticipate attacking moves from County all afternoon.
He also took his goal well, though he was unmarked but let’s say he did well to escape his marker.
This praise was nowhere to be seen for the Swede following his two errors in the Europa League draw against Benfica in Portugal.
The defender was roundly criticised for errors that led to the Gers throwing away a 3-1 lead to eventually draw the important game 3-3.
He has now worked his way back into the side and many Rangers fans have claimed that Helander has to start every game if he is fit.
Let’s hope Helander’s form continues to improve as we face a potentially massive second half of the season.
