'Real potential' – Former Celtic star bigs up striker as Gers plot pre-contract swoop
Scotland international Jack Hendry has shared his view on Rangers target Fashion Sakala.
The pair currently play together at KV Oostende in Belgium, and that has provided the former Celtic player with the ideal chance to assess Sakala’s ability.
The Gers are targeting the striker on a pre-contract deal, but Hendry believes other clubs will register an interest too, possibly leading to a transfer battle.
In an interview with the Scottish Sun, Hendry said, “He’s very quick and scored another couple of goals for Oostende last weekend. He’s a player with real potential.
“He is not the finished product but he has definitely got the potential to kick on. I’m sure there are many teams interested in him right now.
“He needs to remain focused, see out the season here and see where things take him. He’s still only 23 but he can go on to play at a good level.”
Not quite ready
Hendry played 28 times for Celtic and has three Scotland caps, so he is a good judge of the ability required to play in the Scottish Premiership.
His positive reviews of Sakala are encouraging, therefore, but there is still some doubt over his suitability at present.
The defender admitted that, indicating that his teammate has improvements to make to his game.
That means he may not be ready for Rangers just yet.
Steven Gerrard has a decision to make, but on a free in the summer we think the striker is surely worth a gamble.
He’s delivering goals already and he can become a better player under Gerrard at Ibrox.
