‘Emulating the greats’ – Exclusive: Pundit awestruck of under-the-radar Rangers ace
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has claimed that Rangers left-back Borna Barisic is “emulating the greats” that have played at Ibrox before him.
The Croatian delivered the assist for the all-important equaliser against Motherwell last time out and continues to play his part in this phenomenal Bears defence.
McLeish claimed that despite going under-the-radar behind James Tavernier, Barisic continues to prove his “superb” worth to the team.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “They work with both of them well, but Tavernier has maybe got the edge.
“Sometimes Barisic doesn’t have the massive attacking influence that his captain does, but at the same time, he’s proved to be a superb footballer and a really good defender.
“He’s emulating the greats that have played there before for Rangers.”
Barisic has been phenomenal since arriving at Ibrox.
It would be easy for anyone to go under-the-radar in Glasgow with Tavernier scoring and assisting goals left, right and centre.
The Croatian international has still delivered six assists in all competitions, three of those coming in an impressive run in the Europa League.
Calvin Bassey has burst onto the scene this season, but he has still been kept at arms’ length by Barisic, who continues to cement his spot in the side.
The Bears defence has been one of the main reasons behind this season’s success, and long may that continue until the title is ours.
