‘Running outside, top off’ – County forward explains Gerrard inspiration ahead of Rangers clash

Ross County forward Jermaine Hylton has spoken about his adoration for Rangers boss Steven Gerrard ahead of this weekend’s clash at Ibrox.

Country travel to Ibrox looking for a positive result following their 4-1 win over Aberdeen last time out.

Hylton grabbed a late goal in that match and he is looking forward to travelling to Rangers for the second time this season after growing up as a Liverpool fan watching Gerrard every week.

Hylton told County’s official site, “I’ve been a big Liverpool fan since I was about 8 or 9, I knew absolutely nothing about the game and just supported them because all my friends did, and it stuck.

“He has always been someone I looked up to obviously. I remember the Champions League and we’ve gone to Milan and when I came back, I was running outside, top off, flying down the road in the middle of the night.

“He has been massive in my household and it’s always nice to go and challenge yourself against people you live up to.”

The night Hylton is referring to is the famous 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul where Liverpool came from 3-0 down to defeat AC Milan after a penalty shootout in what has gone down as one of the most dramatic games of all time.

Gerrard scored the Reds’ first goal of their comeback, a fantastic header that inspired his players to rally with the image of the Liverpool captain raising his arms towards the travelling fans now iconic in the history of the Merseyside club.

The Gers boss will be hoping that Hylton doesn’t have a similar moment of celebration when the Staggies travel to Ibrox on Saturday.

Following Celtic’s draw against Livingston on Wednesday, the Light Blues have the chance to move even further ahead of the Hoops at the top of the league with a win.

The title is so close to being won now it is surely just a matter of time before we can call ourselves Champions once again.

Let’s hope Hylton and his teammates don’t get anything this weekend so that title can get to Ibrox as soon as possible.

In other Rangers news, a club chief has suggested that a Gers linked forward will not be moving on this month.
