Rangers make approach to English club to sign centre-back and centre-mid – Sky Sports journalist
Rangers have approach Bournemouth over potential deals to sign centre-back Jack Simpson and central midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh, according to Mark McAdam.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Thursday afternoon, the Sky Sports journalist reported that Gers boss Steven Gerrard is a “long-time admirer” of 24-year-old Simpson, whose contract at Bournemouth expires in the summer.
It is understood that the English Championship club accepted a £750,000 bid from Cardiff for Simpson last week but Rangers can approach the ex-England Under-21s defender with a pre-contract.
Late flurry of activity at Ibrox?
We didn’t expect Rangers to do much this month and save their money until the summer transfer window with the Scottish Premiership title pretty much in the bag already.
However, it seems that Gerrard isn’t waiting around and would like to get some deals lined up already with the view to new arrivals coming either this month or in the summer.
Simpson is very much on the fringes of the Bournemouth squad with the 24-year-old playing just 12 times in all competitions this season and being an unused substitute on 12 occasions in the Championship.
Ofoborh, 21, is an interesting one.
He’s a product of Bournemouth’s academy but has only made five senior appearances for the south coast club and all of them have come this season.
The Nigeria Under-20 international can play as a central midfielder or centre-back but he has very little first-team experience away from a loan spell at Wycombe last season in which he won promotion from League One by playing 18 times in England’s third-tier.
Both players are young and could be viewed by Gerrard as players to come in and bolster his squad a bit more in positions which do need a bit of extra depth.
In other Rangers news, Gerrard could make three changes for the clash with Ross County on Saturday.
