Reliable journalist shares major Rangers transfer update on 20y/o after agent reveal
Airdrie winger Thomas Robert is not on Rangers and Steven Gerrard’s shortlist in the January transfer window, according to Andy Newport.
The PA journalist shared on Twitter that Preston’s Ben Davies is also not a target at Ibrox with two weeks left in the current market.
It is reported that the Bears will be doing “little to nothing” this month, as there charge towards the Scottish Premiership continues.
The Robert links have failed to go away this month.
It was reported by the Daily Record in December that both Rangers and Celtic were interested in the 20-year-old, after his sparkling displays for the League One side.
Airdrie were said to be bracing themselves for bids this month for the former Montpellier talent, with Celtic reportedly sending numerous scouts.
Robert’s agent, Paul Tait has suggested that any move to either of the Old Firm clubs may have to wait until the summer, anyway.
League One is currently suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, offering clubs little chance to scout Robert further before making a move.
Rangers appear to be looking elsewhere.
That hands Celtic the perfect opportunity to swoop, although we wouldn’t be too concerned about that one at Ibrox.
Roberts has only scored three times in eight League One appearances, so he isn’t exactly setting the world alight there before a potential switch to the Premiership.
Aberdeen’s Scott Wright is the top priority in this window, and he would offer much more experience and skill than Robert anyway – Gerrard knows what he is doing.
