Reliable journalist delivers major Rangers transfer update after offer reportedly tabled

It was reported on Tuesday that Rangers had made a “significant offer” to Preston defender Ben Davies.

The report claimed that Celtic and some Premier League sides were interested in the 25-year-old centre-back.

It claimed that Rangers had made the first move, though, with a “lucrative” pre-contract offer that would see Davies join on a free in the summer.

Davies turned down a reported £17k-a-week contract offer from Preston, with his current deal ending in June.

However, according to the Sun’s transfer guru Alan Nixon, “There’s no pre-contract offer for Davies”.

Nixon posted that update on his personal Twitter page on Tuesday night.

Premier League bound?

Ben Davies has pretty much been a mainstay at Preston since returning from loan in 2017.

Picking him up on a free would be good business for Rangers and nicking him from under the noses of Celtic would be the cherry on top.

He’s impressed so much at Preston this season that he’s been tipped for the Premier League, with Leicester reportedly interested.

The Nixon update states that there’s been no pre-contract offer for Davies but it doesn’t rule out Rangers interest.

After turning down a contract offer from Preston, the Championship club could look to move him on in this window for a fee.

And Rangers have history here, bringing in Glen Kamara for a nominal fee after an initial agreement for him to join the following summer.

However, if Premier League interest does materialise, this is one we might have to give up on.

We’re pretty well packed in defence at the moment, though, and we’ve got the record to show that it’s an area of real strength for the side at the moment.
