‘I’ve heard…’ – Exclusive: Alex McLeish accuses Rangers of ‘complacency’ v Motherwell

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has accused Rangers of being too “complacent” in their 1-1 draw against Motherwell on Sunday afternoon.

The Bears witnessed Celtic draw against Livingston before their game but failed to extend their giant gap in the Scottish Premiership any further.

McLeish claimed that result will have given Rangers another “massive boost” but they weren’t able to take advantage of it at Fir Park.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “That’ll be the word that’ll be frequently used in the dressing room – complacency.

“I’ve heard that Steve has had a go at them at half-time because you would have thought on the contrary on the back of Celtic drawing, a massive boost, but maybe they’ve gone out complacent, think it would just happen.

“That’s why they have to go out with that grit in the teeth, and the minute they go down that tunnel, they should be ready.”

Rangers

It certainly wasn’t the greatest of performances on Sunday.

Steven Gerrard admitted that he wasn’t happy with his side, and we must give him praise for how he rallied the troops at half-time after going one goal behind.

Rangers are still 21 points ahead, and it appears as though the title is within touching distance in the second half of the season.

As well as the title, Gerrard and the Gers will want to finish the season as invincibles, and this is a real opportunity that they can’t blow – something that almost happened on Sunday.
