Andy Halliday backs Rangers star to be rested after major injury boost

Andy Halliday has backed Rangers to hand Steven Davis more rests after the 1-1 draw against Motherwell.

Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield have been ruled out with injuries over the Christmas period, but the Scottish international should return against Ross County.

Halliday has claimed that the Northern Ireland veteran won’t have played as many games, despite reaching his 300th Bears appearance this weekend.

Speaking on the Open Goal YouTube channel, Halliday claimed that the veteran continues to be one of the Bears’ top performers.

“I thought Davo was Rangers best player again at the weekend,” he said.

“He’s 36. He wouldn’t have played anywhere near the amount of games he has recently if Jack and Arfield were fit. I think Ryan Jack is back now.

“Probably, it will give Davis a chance to get rested.”

Jack has been back in training for a week now and is certain to return against Ross County this weekend – giving Steven Gerrard something to think about.

Davis has been superb in his absence and would love to carry on starting if he was offered the chance alongside Glen Kamara.

The Northern Ireland veteran will want to keep adding to his latest milestone, and won’t want to stop as he looks to make it 10 starts in-a-row.

Gerrard recently claimed that extending Davis’ contract was his “top priority” which only highlights just how important he has been this season.

The effect his experience will have on and off the pitch will be enormous, and that cannot be underestimated during this incredible run.
