Report: Rangers handed major fitness boost ahead of clash v Ross County
Rangers forward Kemar Roofe is set to return to full training this week having missed two games with a calf injury, report The Scotsman.
The £20,000 a week player was ruled out after sustaining the setback against Celtic earlier this month, but could now be in line to return against Ross County this weekend.
Ryan Jack is also recovering from an injury, and though the Motherwell clash came too soon for the midfielder, the report suggests he could join Roofe in his return.
The 28-year-old has had to be more patient in waiting for his return having been out since November with a knee injury, and that may explain Steven Gerrard’s caution.
Much-needed boost
The Gers haven’t looked the same team without Roofe in the side, particularly on Sunday as we struggled to a draw against a bottom of the league Motherwell.
Our main fault last weekend was an inability to break down the opposition, with Aberdeen also proving quite resolute the week prior, but Roofe should be able to change that.
The forward is clever at taking up brilliant positions in and around the opposition penalty box.
Roofe’s movement, as well as his finishing capability, is what has allowed him to make 14 goal contributions this term – with eight goals in his previous nine league matches.
That shows what he offers the Gers, so it is brilliant to have him back.
The 28-year-old was only out for two weeks so hopefully he will be able to start on Saturday.
It would be great to see Jack back, too, and added competition may get the best out of Glen Kamara, as he achieved a WhoScored rating of 6.8 in each of his last two games.
These returns should act as a timely boost to the squad and provide a source of motivation ahead of a crucial period in the title race.
In other Rangers news, Derek Ferguson has made a claim about what Gerrard should have done against Motherwell.
