‘Redemption’ – Many Rangers fans thrilled with role David Weir may have played in Celtic woes

Rangers fans have been raving about former defender and assistant manager David Weir for his possible role in Shane Duffy’s failed loan to Celtic.

Weir, 50, was adored by fans during his spell as a player at Ibrox but his relationship with the Bears soured after his acrimonious exit alongside ex-Gers manager Mark Warburton in 2017.

However, it seems that Weir has redeemed himself if he played any role in Celtic signing Duffy in the summer because the ex-Scotland international, unknowingly to a lot of Rangers supporters, is the loans manager at Brighton.

Weir was hired by the English Premier League club in 2018 [Scottish Sun] to sort out loans for players and monitor their progress.

In September, Celtic signed Republic of Ireland defender Duffy on a season-long deal from Brighton but it would be fair to say that he has completely flopped while in Glasgow despite earning a huge £40,000-a-week.

Since seeing that Weir is the man behind loan transfers at the AMEX, a number of Rangers fans have been in hysterics.

‘Agent Weir’ might not have left on the best of terms in 2017 but he’s more than making up for it now in the eyes of many supporters.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

We’re not sure how much of a role Weir played in Duffy’s loan move to Celtic Park but either way, it is absolutely hilarious to think that a former Ger may have played a big part in one of Celtic’s worst ever signings.

Maybe Weir knew how bad Duffy would do at Celtic. Let’s stick to that school of thought.
