‘Proper football’ – Premiership manager delivers gushing verdict on ‘Matador’ Gers

Rangers will look to bounce back with a win when they host Ross County on Saturday, and opposition manager John Hughes has been full of praise for the Gers.

Steven Gerrard’s side were held to a surprise draw by Motherwell last Sunday.

Despite that, Hughes is a big fan of the style of play implemented by Gerrard, and there also seemed to be a sense of fear in his words.

Ahead of the clash Hughes told the Press Association, “Rangers play football the way it should be played. They keep the ball, you don’t get a touch of it.

“I could sit here and wax lyrical about Rangers because their style of play is right up my street.

“Proper football; everybody can look after the ball, full-backs scoring goals, guys coming off the bench and doing the business, plenty of rotation, pace, goals and that’s why they are where they are.

“I use a great phrase; bulls and matadors. There is many a time I have been the bull and it is not nice getting a chasing. It might be like that on Saturday.”

Rangers

Time to express dominance

It’s fantastic hearing stuff like this about Rangers from rival managers but the Motherwell game showed we’re not going to walk through everyone/

Ross County, who sit 10th, will likely look to emulate the Motherwell formula, so there is a risk of dropping more points.

Hughes points to the goals provided by the full-backs, James Tavernier and Borna Barisic.

The latter provided an exquisite cross for Cedric Itten to grab the equaliser at Fir Park, but we cannot continue to rely on that pair.

The County boss also references the options available on the bench, and fortunately for Stevie G he may be able to call upon returning duo Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe this weekend.

They should be a boost, but it is still time for the likes of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos to step up after a dip in form.

Combined they have scored or assisted just eight goals in their last ten league games, which is a concern given their usual prolific numbers.
