Kaveh Solhekol shares transfer update on PL midfielder Rangers were linked with in October

Kaveh Solhekol has reported Everton are ready to let Muhamed Besic leave Goodison Park this month after the midfielder was linked with a move to Rangers in October.

Ahead of the last transfer deadline day in Scotland, the Daily Record reported that Besic, 28, could head to Ibrox as Steven Gerrard wanted to add to his midfield before the deadline passed.

Rangers eventually ended up singing Bongani Zungu from Amiens and Besic has remained at Everton, where he’s failed to make a single appearance this season.

However, Sky Sports journalist Solhekol claims Besic is now available again if the Light Blues are willing to reignite their pursuit of the Bosnia & Herzegovina international.

“Everton are not expecting to sign anyone this month. Yannick Bolasie and Mo Besic will be allowed to leave,” said Solhekol on Monday, as shown on Sky Sports’ website.

Is another central midfielder needed?

Besic has had quite a torrid time at Goodison Park.

Since his arrival on Merseyside in 2014, the holding midfielder has made just 56 appearances in all competitions at Everton and seen loan spells at Middlesbrough and Sheffield United fail to spark his career in England into life.

The former Hamburg player needs to move on and he will more than likely do that this year with his contract at Everton expiring in the summer.

Rangers can approach the Bosnian midfielder with a pre-contract deal but Solhekol’s update suggests the Toffees will be ready to let him leave this month.

Gerrard was linked with signing the Everton man in October but would he still want him now?

It wouldn’t hurt Rangers to strengthen their central midfield options with Ryan Jack seemingly injured all the time, Steven Davis ageing and Zungu yet to really impress since his move to Govan.

Besic, though, wouldn’t be the answer in our opinion.

He hasn’t kicked a ball in anger since January last year when he was on loan at Sheffield United. His spell at Bramall Lane produced just nine top-flight appearances.

Besic might be better suited to the Scottish Premiership but we’re not really sure that we want to find out.
