Agent rules out deal for Rangers linked attacker this month
A move for Rangers linked Thomas Robert may have to wait until the summer following the shut down of the Scottish lower leagues, according to the player’s agent.
The Daily Record reported in December that both the Gers and Celtic were interested in signing the 20-year-old winger who plays for League One side Airdrieonians.
The player’s agent, Paul Tait, has now claimed that any potential move to Glasgow may have to wait until the summer with League One currently on a break.
Tait is quoted by The Daily Record as saying, “It’s unfortunate the league is off until February. It would’ve been good for Thomas to get more game time during January.
“Not much has been happening and clubs can’t get the opportunity to watch players so it’s looking like it might be the summer until the right deal comes up.”
The Scottish lower leagues have been shut down for three weeks following rising COVID cases which means Robert won’t play again this month.
It was probably unlikely that the Light Blues were going to make a move for the 20-year-old this month anyway as the club seemingly have their sights set on Scott Wright.
The Aberdeen winger is more experienced than Robert and is more likely to have an immediate impact on the Ibrox squad.
Robert was highly sought after when he left Montpellier so if Rangers can tie up a deal for the young attacker in the future it could prove to be a tidy bit of business.
Robert was brought up by a footballing father with Newcastle United favourite Laurent Robert getting him involved in football at an early age.
A summer move may make more sense for the Gers as it will give the youngster more time to develop and show Rangers that he is worth taking a chance on.
Hopefully at least some business is done in the next few weeks as we push for 55.
In other Rangers news, Styilian Petrov has claimed that Rangers will get Neil Lennon sacked.
