‘Most underrated player we’ve had for years’, ‘Outstanding’ – These Bears wowed by star v M’well

Rangers took another step closer to the Premiership title on Sunday but it could have been a much better weekend.

With Celtic drawing on Saturday, Rangers had the opportunity to stretch the lead at the top of the table to 23 points.

However, they could only manage a 1-1 draw against a side that started the day bottom of the Premiership.

Devante Cole gave Motherwell the lead in the 21st minute of the game and they managed to hold onto that all the way until 18 minutes before the end when Cedric Itten powered a header home.

Rangers had all the pressure at the end but couldn’t fashion a winner.

There were a number of Gers players who were off the boil on Sunday – James Tavernier and Ryan Kent most notably – but one player was quietly going about his job and pushing the game.

It was Steven Davis’ 300th game for the Gers and he came in for praise from Steven Gerrard after the game.

And he came in for a lot of praise from Rangers fans too, with one saying he is, “The most underrated player we’ve had for many years

Other fans pointed out that Davis was one of the only players on the park on Sunday who was playing well.

One said that Ianis Hagi, Kent and Joe Aribo were all “murder on the ball”, while Davis was the “only guy who wanted to speed things up.”

That’s not a bad write-up for a player who’s 36 years old.

Davis couldn’t inspire us to all three points but it’s another fixture off the list and one step closer to the title.

And, it proves that when some players are off the boil, there are always others who can step up in this brilliant squad.

Here are the best reactions to Davis’ display on Sunday…
