‘Great chance’ – Exclusive: McLeish urges Rangers talent to prove ‘star’ quality after loan exit

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has urged Rangers talent Kai Kennedy to prove his star quality in his latest loan switch to Raith Rovers this season.

The 18-year-old finally put pen-to-paper on a new contract at Ibrox this week and has moved up the Championship table, leaving Inverness behind.

Kennedy had been linked with the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich previously, so now it is time for the winger to prove why.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “It’s a great chance for him to play regular football.

“It’s first-team football, that’s the key. It’s up to him to show him he’s going to be a star in the future for Rangers.”

Gerrard is clearly a massive fan of the young winger and was previously quoted by the Daily Record singing his praises massively.

“He’s been the most consistent and he’s a fabulous little player. It wasn’t just a token gesture because he’s a kid.”

Kennedy struggled to show that at Inverness in the first half of the season.

In his nine appearances, Kennedy only managed to score once and failed to deliver a single assist despite playing at left-wing.

McLeish is right to send out this message to Kennedy.

He will know that he is rated very highly at Ibrox, but he needs to go out and prove it to send Gerrard the message that he is ready for the first-team next season.
