‘Not convinced’ – McFadden shares verdict on Rangers goal after Alexander arguments

James McFadden has claimed that Rangers equalising goal against Motherwell should have stood after arguments over the officiating.

Graham Alexander came out after the game and claimed that Cedric Itten was offside before he headed home once again at Fir Park.

Replays were inconclusive, but McFadden believed that Declan Gallagher was playing the Swiss forward onside.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, McFadden claimed there was no point in complaining because there is no VAR available.

“I’m not convinced,” he said.

‘I can see his point of view. From Rangers’ point of view, it’s a different cross from a different angle and that is something that they needed.

“I think if you look at Gallagher, it’s difficult to say, but he potentially playing him onside. We can go on and on about VAR, but we don’t have it so there’s no point.

“From that angle, it looks like Gallagher is playing him onside.”

There will always be some complaints, but there isn’t any room for them today.

Itten was on the edge, but the sign of a good striker is being able to stay onside but get into that space around the back – something he did expertly to head home.

Alexander or his players didn’t complain at the time of the goal, but after seeing numerous replays, all of a sudden it should have been ruled out.

Itten has a great record against Motherwell this season and has scored four goals in his three appearances.

We deserved this goal, and the unbeaten run continues.
