‘No further dialogue’ – Club boss suggests Rangers transfer negotiations have stalled
Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes isn’t aware of any further movement from Rangers as they attempt to sign winger Scott Wright.
Earlier this week, McInnes praised Steven Gerrard for approaching the deal for Wright in an appropriate manner, confirming the Gers’ interest in the 23-year-old.
The Dons boss has now claimed that he hasn’t heard from Rangers since which raises doubts over the Light Blues’ pursuit of the attacker.
McInnes is quoted by the Daily Record as saying, “As far as I’m concerned, both myself and the chairman have had no other contact from Rangers since the start of the week.
“They’ve made it clear Scott’s a player they want to work with for next season and if they want to work with him for the rest of this season clearly it has to be a good offer.
“I’ll keep getting asked the question but there’s been no further dialogue other than their initial approach.”
The Dons lost 4-1 to Ross County on Saturday as speculation begins to mount over what is going on with the transfer.
The Gers could be looking for a way to bring Wright to Ibrox this month instead of at the end of the season and their discussions over how to do this may have talks on hold.
There has also been talk that Rangers could offer a player in part-exchange for Wright in order to push a deal through this month and discussions with that player could be holding up a move.
While transfers don’t usually occur within days, especially in January, it is slightly odd to hear McInnes say that Rangers haven’t been in contact after declaring their interest in the last week.
We hope the club don’t leave things too late in the bid to sign Wright as Aberdeen may want to keep the talented winger until the summer if they do not have time to find a replacement.
