Exclusive: McLeish hails ‘Fantastic’ Rangers ace despite 0% dribble success v Motherwell

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has claimed that Rangers winger Ryan Kent is still showing “fantastic” potential despite his recent dip in form.

The 24-year-old has struggled to reach levels he has produced before this season, only scoring five goals in his 24 appearances in the Scottish Premiership.

Steven Gerrard has stuck with Kent despite his form and was rewarded with two assists against Aberdeen last weekend.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “He’s still a kid.

“People say that players like that don’t hit their peak until their later 20’s, but you see the potential of the guy, it’s fantastic. I’ve seen that many times.

“Now he’s thinking about things, he’s got different roles and he has to adhere to them and that would kind of interfere and something that will make him much more learned about the game.”

Rangers

It was another frustrating afternoon for Kent against Motherwell today.

Despite Cedric Itten rescuing the equaliser, Gerrard will not have been happy with the way his side failed to grind out the three points at Fir Park.

Kent failed to make a massive impact, completing none of his attempted dribbles to get into dangerous positions according to WhoScored.

McLeish is right though, Kent is still showing great potential and if he can continue to get even better than this, then Rangers are in for a real treat.

Kent is a victim of his own success, so when he has a quiet month, people start asking questions, but it will be him laughing when he gets to lift the title sooner rather than later.
