‘Crazy wages’ – These Bears split over move for free agent once tipped to be next big thing

Rangers-linked Max Meyer has been released from his Crystal Palace contract and his sudden availability has piqued the interest of some Gers supporters.

The German midfielder was linked with a move to Ibrox back in the summer, but leading football blogger ‘The 4th Official’, denied any serious interest from Steven Gerrard’s side.

However, he appears to be a player that some Rangers fans have not exactly forgotten about.

It was confirmed by Crystal Palace on Friday night that the player will leave the club with immediate effect.

The Eagles have been looking to trim their wage bill and with Meyer out of favour and free to leave in the summer, it was a move that made sense for both parties.

There have been some conflicting reports regarding the player’s wages – the Daily Mail reported that the German was on an astonishing £170k per week, a gigantic figure for a player of his calibre.

Meanwhile, Spotrac claim that he was earning much closer to the £125k figure at Selhurst Park.

While wages of that ilk would make a deal impossible for Rangers, it must be noted that by moving to Crystal Palace on a free transfer from Schalke, at a time when he was considered to be Germany’s next big wonderkid, he was able to secure a very lucrative contract in the Premier League.

However, these Rangers fans have been debating a possible move for Meyer online and there have been some contrasting views on the former Crystal Palace man.
