‘Nonsense’ – Chris Sutton claims SPFL could face ‘outcry’ after Ally McCoist Rangers verdict
Chris Sutton has claimed that the SPFL would face an “outcry” if they were to declare the season null and void given Rangers lead.
The Chief Executive of the SPFL, Neil Doncaster has refused to rule out the possibility of that happening during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ally McCoist admitted that the title race isn’t over despite the Bears’ 21-point lead before Sutton claimed they should be handed the trophy now.
Speaking on BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra, McCoist shared his verdict on the Gers having hands on the silverware already.
“Never, not until it’s mathematically impossible,” he said.
Sutton then couldn’t help himself, making a null and void joke before claiming that the Bears should be handed the title now.
“Not with null and void on the table now as well of course.
“Rangers have been excellent all season, they are so far ahead in the title race, they should hand Rangers the title now.
“On a serious note all of this null and void nonsense from Neil Doncaster, there would be an outcry if that was the case and quite rightly so after what happened last season and Celtic have to accept it, and I think they do most of the Celtic fans.”
Sutton is spot on.
Celtic were handed the title last season when the season was brought to a halt, and should it happen again, Rangers must be treated exactly the same.
Steven Gerrard has claimed on Friday that the season must be completed, with back-to-back cancelled campaigns surely a failure.
Rangers are charging towards 55, but we already know that a certain bunch of Celtic fans would make the excuse of the season not finishing if it was cancelled.
There’s no doubting it, the Bears run Glasgow, and should the season continue, they are bound to prove that by going unbeaten.
