‘Incredible’ – Gerrard tipped to quit Rangers & Klopp to exit Liverpool in bizarre pundit claim

Steven Gerrard will quit Rangers and become the new Liverpool manager in the summer, according to former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie.

Gerrard is on his way to leading Rangers to their 55th Scottish league title this term with the Light Blues 21 points ahead of Celtic at the top of the Premiership table.

McAvennie believes there’s a good chance Jurgen Klopp will walk away from Liverpool at the end of this season with the reigning Premier League champions not playing as well as they did last term.

“I think he’ll go at the end of the season,” McAvennie said about Gerrard on Si Ferry’s Open Goal on YouTube.

“I think Klopp will move on. He’s having a hard time down there and that’s because of all the injuries, they’re not winning, they’re not playing as good as they did last year and he’s getting a hard time. All of a sudden the momentum’s gone and you know what it’s like with social media now, people start slagging off Klopp.

“I hope [he doesn’t leave Liverpool] but listen, I think [Gerrard] will go down there. I think he’s learned his trade.

“He’ll look at Frank Lampard who’s done a great job at Chelsea and [Mikel] Arteta at Arsenal and [Wayne] Rooney at Derby.

“It’s incredible how much he’s done there and he’ll be thinking he can do it in the Premier League.”

Absolutely no chance

How on earth has McAvennie just made a comparison about Gerrard, Lampard, Arteta and Rooney?

We’ll ignore Rooney because he’s only recently taken charge at Derby, who are struggling with huge financial issues but Lampard and Arteta? Give it a break, Frank.

Chelsea are ninth and Arsenal are 11th so we fail to see how Gerrard will look at those two and think he’s at a good stage of his career to join a Premier League club.

If anything, he’ll look at managers like that and be put off by the idea of heading to England and will want to continue plying his trade in Scotland.

Lampard spent one season at Derby, failed to get them promoted and then was thrown in at Chelsea while Arteta is in his first senior management job at the Emirates.

Gerrard has been getting better and better so why not continue to build on that after this season? Why not really cement Rangers as Scotland’s best club before moving on? Why not at least try and get them to the Champions League group stages first?

As for McAvennie’s claim about Klopp. Give off.

There’s not really any indication that Klopp will quit Liverpool. What a load of rubbish.
