Rangers-linked midfielder close to joining English club – report
Rangers target Jack Wilshere is reportedly close to making a move to Bournemouth, according to the Scottish Sun.
Wilshere has been available on a free agent since leaving West Ham in October, and the Gers are one club that have consistently been linked.
The 29-year-old has been training on the south coast for the last few weeks, and Cherries boss Jason Tindall is considering making the midfielder a contract offer.
Tindall added that his club will monitor Wilshere’s situation over the next couple of weeks, which means Steven Gerrard is running out of time if he wants to make a move.
Gamble worth taking
There may be several fans who believe Wilshere is a player not worth touching due to his injury record.
After all, West Ham took a gamble when signing him in 2018, but two years and just 19 games later he proved to be a waste of time and money.
There is a likelihood that the same could occur if we brought him to Ibrox, but there are ways to minimise the risk.
Firstly, we could offer him a short-term contract, and if he can maintain his fitness from now until the end of the season, and of course prove his quality, then we can begin considering the long-term.
A pay-as-you-play deal is another option, and though a player of Wilshere’s reputation may not like such an offer, he is running out of chances and therefore could be persuaded.
There is no doubting his quality, Bournemouth’s interest underlines that, and since he has played at the highest level he could be a brilliant role model for the likes of Joe Aribo.
There is an added bonus also, Wilshere’s admiration of Gerrard.
The pair will know each other from their England days, and if the Gers boss can inspire the best out of the former Arsenal gem, we could all be pleasantly surprised.
In other Rangers news, the club has targeted a classy midfielder who English club signed for £1.5m in 2020.
