‘Demote Celtic’ – Durham calls for Hoops punishment, says Dubai is worse than Rangers admin

TalkSPORT host Adrian Durham has claimed that Celtic should be relegated from the Scottish Premiership in a similar manner to Rangers in 2012.

Celtic are under fire for flying to Dubai for a squad break during the COVID-19 pandemic with many players having to self isolate on their return to Scotland.

A furious Durham said on TalkSPORT that the Hoops are ‘insulting’ football fans and reiterated that the club should be demoted to Scottish League Two.

He said, “After a 200 grand trip to Dubai, for a bunch of losers to laugh in the face of a Scotland that has been decimated by COVID, Celtic are now getting the taxpayer to pay for their youth squad.

“What Celtic are doing now is far, far worse, far more insulting to the fans and to football and to the whole nation than anything Rangers did nine years ago.

“So wouldn’t it be just fitting, wouldn’t it be right, to demote Celtic to Scottish League Two after all this nonsense?”

Rangers were kicked out of the Scottish Premiership following the financial troubles at the club in the early years of the last decade.

This is something that has happened to may clubs before and will happen again in future.

Celtic have done something truly unique in flaunting COVID rules to fly abroad and essentially enjoy a tropical holiday while the world suffers through the pandemic.

First, pictures of Neil Lennon and Scott Brown show the two men drinking pints round the hotel pool which is hardly part of a squad break.

Then Christopher Jullien tests positive for COVID-19 and everyone who went on the trip was at risk of picking it up with most having to self isolate.

It was incredibly easy to predict that this mid-season break wouldn’t go down well with Scottish football fans, though it has provided a great deal of entertainment for the Blue half of Glasgow.

You could argue that what Celtic have done is worse than anything the Gers did all those years ago but unfortunately, we can’t see the Hoops getting demoted for it.

In other Rangers news, Kris Boyd is thankful that the Gers avoided a transfer mistake.
