‘Blessing in disguise’ – Boyd hails Rangers transfer luck over failed move

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has claimed that Alfredo Morelos failing to move away from Ibrox in the summer was a blessing in disguise.

Morelos was linked with a number of clubs with French side Lille thought to be the front runners in the race to secure the Colombian’s signature.

Boyd claims that Morelos staying at Ibrox has been a huge benefit for the Gers with other players forced to step up due to his poor form.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Scottish Football podcast, Boyd said, “He was back to his best on Sunday at Aberdeen.

“Morelos’ performances have not been at the level he’s set from last season, but if he has a big run, you would expect Rangers to go and stretch that lead further from 21 points.

“Obviously the move did not materialise for him in the summer, and it’s probably been a blessing in disguise for Rangers, in terms of competition for places, with other players stepping up.”

Morelos looked back to his best against Aberdeen as he took his two goals incredibly well.

This is the El Buffalo we are used to seeing but there is no denying his early-season form forced other Gers players to step up.

Kemar Roofe and Ryan Kent had to be more of a goal threat with the main man not firing and both players have duly provided.

Roofe was in a very good run of form before he picked up a knock in the first half of the most recent Old Firm, scoring eight goals in his nine previous league games.

Ianis Hagi has also stepped up in recent games but now Morelos looks to be recovering his performances, we are excited about the prospect of a front three who are all in red hot form.

Fans and pundits have been wondering how much better Steven Gerrard’s side could be once Morelos finds his form.

These thoughts could soon become a reality as the club looks to wrap up the Scottish Premiership title with plenty of games to spare.

If Morelos bags the goals that win us the league then his failed transfer in the summer would prove to be a huge blessing.

In other Rangers news, the club has targeted a classy midfielder who English club signed for £1.5m in 2020.
