Times delivers major Rangers transfer update as club in talks over signing attacker

The Times has said that Rangers are in ongoing talks over an immediate move for Aberdeen winger Scott Wright.

Wright is out of contract in the summer but the Times claim Rangers want to complete the transfer now saying, “The Ibrox side made an official approach for Wright this week and discussions are ongoing at boardroom level.”

The Times have also talked about the current deal for Ross McCrorie, currently at Pittodrie on loan, being renegotiated.

He’s set for a £300,000 permanent move in the summer but that could be pushed through in January.

That would make him eligible to play against Rangers later on this season.

Not a straightforward deal

This is a complicated deal that hinges on a number of factors.

How much do Rangers want to pay knowing they can get Wright for free in the summer?

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes said on Tuesday, “It has to be a good offer for us, it has to be an offer that suits us [for him to move this month].

“I’ll leave that for the clubs to discuss. I spoke to Steven [Gerrard] yesterday and I know exactly where they stand and they know where we stand.”

McCrorie is already on loan at Aberdeen with a price set for a summer transfer.

The only advantage that Aberdeen would get from making this permanent now is having him available for the game against Rangers.

However, if Wright is unsettled, how much use will he be at Aberdeen for the second half of the season?

That’s what led Glen Kamara to make the switch early for a nominal fee of £50,000.

If a deal can be struck then it would make sense for Rangers and ultimately it could be the best for Aberdeen, too.
