Player reportedly wanted by Rangers aims cheeky dig at Celtic on Instagram

Rangers target and Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean may already be trying to appeal to the Ibrox faithful on social media.

The Scottish midfielder responded to an Instagram post by John McGinn, who was praising Hibernian man Lewis Stevenson after recently making his 500th appearance for the club during their recent 1-1 draw with Celtic.

In the comments, McLean appeared to take a swipe at Celtic by claiming that it was actually a disappointing result for Hibs, who, he feels should have won have the game.

The Sun have linked McLean with a move back to Scotland with Rangers and getting an early jibe in at Celtic would be an easy way to endear himself to supporters.

Potential long-term Davis replacement

McLean represents an interesting prospect for Rangers, with the Scot being utilised in various positions for Norwich this season.

The 29-year-old has made 11 appearances in a central midfield role, according to Transfermarkt.

However, he has recorded some of his best WhoScored match ratings when playing in a more defensive role.

McLean has a rating of 7.07 when playing in defensive midfield, compared to just 6.58 in more advanced midfield positions.

With Ryan Jack closer than ever to making a first-team return, he is likely to be one of the first names on the team sheet once he is fully fit.

However, with Davis approaching the latter stages of his career, McLean could be viewed as someone to come in and take some of the pressure off the Northern Irish ace.
