Rangers must £1m pay to sign highly-rated forward – report
Wigan Athletic are reportedly demanding £1million from potential suitors for Rangers and Tottenham target Kyle Joseph.
A report from The Athletic has provided some clarity on the in-demand Scottish youth international, who they say has also attracted previous interest from Sheffield United.
The report adds that Wigan are desperate to keep hold of the striker, or at least, not have to sell on him on the cheap amid their financial struggles.
Joseph is out of contract at the League One side in the summer and will be free to leave for nothing if he does not sign a new deal at the club.
Alan Nixon previously claimed that Wigan were quoting a ‘high fee’, but we now know that is a six-figure sum.
£1million too much for Rangers
Four League One goals this season – which included his first senior hat-trick – would suggest that Joseph is clearly an exciting talent.
Capped at U-19 level by Scotland, he is a player many Scots will be excited about going forward.
However, knowing that he could be available for free in the summer makes any January bid highly unlikely, especially at the quoted price.
In recent years, Rangers have used the pre-contract market incredibly well and any deal for Joseph would go completely against that.
Both Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara – both now key first-team players – were signed for a combined fee of roughly £350,000, while more recently, Aberdeen’s Scott Wright looks like the next player to be coming through the door.
For all Joseph’s potential, it simply would not be smart business for the Gers when they could potentially snap him up for a fraction of that in the very near future.
