Club chief gives update on future of silky winger reportedly wanted by Rangers
Peterborough director of football Barry Fry has reiterated the club’s desire to keep hold of in-demand winger and Rangers target Siriki Dembele.
Fry has been quizzed on the player’s future by the Peterborough Telegraph, amid rumours that he could leave the club.
On Dembele’s future, Fry hit back and said: “Our line remains the same. We are not interested in losing our best players in January.”
Both Rangers and Celtic have been linked with moves to sign the winger, after impressing in League One for Peterborough.
Back in December, the Peterborough Telegraph named Rangers among the many teams that were watching Dembele – with Premier League duo Newcastle and Fulham also keen.
One to watch for Rangers
Dembele’s dazzling form in League One is not going unnoticed and he is certainly a player that Rangers should consider keeping a close eye on going forward.
According to Wyscout, he ranks inside the top five players throughout League One for the most number of progressive runs. Dembele also completed the most dribbles (10.37) per 90 minutes than any other League One player.
On the ball, he is just as dangerous. He has played the fourth-highest number of key passes in the division, while only Scott Fraser of MK Dons has played more smart passes than Dembele.
The 24-year-old is clearly an exciting talent but with Scott Wright seemingly on his way to Ibrox, the latter’s arrival may well cast doubts over any potential move to sign Dembele – he is certainly a player to watch for now.
