‘Incredible’ – Moore delivers verdict on potentially historic Rangers season
Former Rangers stalwart Craig Moore has tipped the current crop to go one better and beat their best total of 97 points.
Moore made over 250 appearances for the Gers between 1994 and 2005 and was part of the side that accrued 97 points along their way to winning the 2002/03 Scottish title.
Steven Gerrard’s side are currently unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership having only dropped four points in their first 23 games this season and look like sure-fire title winners.
In an interview with Record Sport Moore has refused to rule out the possibility of this Rangers side eclipsing his own achievements, saying: “It’s incredible they are still unbeaten.
“So can they break the points record? What they have shown so far it’s certainly possible.”
He added: “Records are there to be broken and if you start talking 100 points then that’s an incredible season.”
Can Gerrard and co achieve the unthinkable and hit a ton?
To surpass Moore and his teammates Rangers would need to amass 33 more points over the course of the remaining games, which is just over half of the total they have now.
With 15 games remaining of their Premiership campaign that is the possibility of picking up 45 more points.
To reach 100 points the Gers need 35 more points which would mean only dropping a maximum of 10 points.
Given that they have only dropped a mere four points past the halfway stage of the season it is a more than realistic possibility and is something they should use as motivation for the rest of the season.
The Premiership title appears to be all but wrapped up but Gerrard will be driving his team on to secure it as soon as possible.
A premature title victory and a long run in the Europa League knock-out stages could mean Gerrard rotates his pack and places less emphasis on league games but there is still enough quality in the squad to overpower every other team in the league.
They still have the likes of Celtic and Hibernian to play but if this season has shown anything it is that this side is capable of achieving anything, and do not be surprised to see Rangers romp to a century of points and smash Celtic’s 106 total under Brendan Rodgers.
