‘Feeling of failure’ – Exclusive: McLeish backs Rangers outcast to save Ibrox career with move

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has backed Rangers outcast George Edmundson to save his Ibrox career by taking a loan move in the January window.

The Daily Record has reported this month that both Edmundson and Jordan Jones could leave Glasgow on loan, with numerous clubs south of the border interested.

Edmundson has yet to play since his significant ban for breaching COVID-19 regulations but has been given an olive branch by Steven Gerrard in recent press conferences.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “Of course, you never like to be leaving because there is a kind of feeling of failure.

“Why not? You’re still attached to the club, it’s just a loan deal. Go out and get some confidence, enrich yourself with good performances and then allow yourself to think that you can play at that top level that Rangers strive for.”

Edmundson has no chance of playing at Ibrox this season.

The 23-year-old has only played 14 minutes of football in the Scottish Premiership and has four other options ahead of him in the pecking order.

Conor Goldson, Filip Helander, Leon Balogun and even the injured Nikola Katic have more chances of playing every single week, and this could be a make-or-break month for Edmundson.

McLeish is spot on with his verdict, should the defender not take this chance to prove himself elsewhere, he can wave goodbye to his chances of having a successful career at Ibrox.
