'That's what we want', 'Easy' - Some Rangers fans thrilled with Sunday announcement

Rangers fans can look forward to a fixture with Cove Rangers after they were drawn to face each other at Ibrox in the third round of the Scottish Cup.

Former Gers star Peter Lovenkrands was tasked with drawing the teams out the hat and Rangers v Cove Rangers was the pick of the fixtures.

The clash will take place on the weekend of January 30 which looks set to be sandwiched in between two Premiership games for Rangers, against Hibernian on January 27 and St Johnston on February 3.

Cove Rangers play in the Scottish League One and currently sit in second behind Falkirk with 19 points.

The Gers, meanwhile, are significantly clear of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership and will be confident of dispatching their lower-league opponents who sit two divisions below them.

The only blot on the copybook of the Light Blues this season is a 3-2 League Cup defeat to St Mirren on December 16 as they remain unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership and in their Europa League campaign, and a League Cup success looks like a very real possibility as Steven Gerrard chases his first managerial honour.

They will hope that they can add a League Cup success to a seemingly inevitable Premiership title while Europa League glory is still not out of the question.

Gerrard and co will expect the Cove Rangers match-up to be a mismatch given the difference in positions between the sides, and it is likely he will give a chance to a number of fringe players who will hope to impress.
