‘Refreshing’ – Exclusive: McLeish hails Rangers after persuading 18y/o to stick at Ibrox
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has hailed Rangers for securing the future of Kai Kennedy by handing the winger a new contract at Ibrox.
The 18-year-old signed a new two-year deal with the club on Friday, and will now spend the rest of the season on loan at Raith Rovers.
McLeish believes it is “refreshing” to see the Bears keep their brightest talents, claiming the club will think a lot of him to tie him down.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “It is indeed, and that’s good that he has changed his mind, or has been persuaded.
“I think that a lot of players when they’re young at that age, they are kind of looking for security and sometimes you fear being out of a job or maybe losing confidence at not being able to make the grade.
“Rangers must think a lot of him to have tied him up again, and time will tell, it certainly must be absolutely refreshing news for the kid himself and Rangers.”
Finally, this long-standing feud has come to an end.
The 18-year-old has previously been reported to be considering leaving Ibrox and had an exit on the cards to some big-name clubs.
Roma, Manchester City and Bayern Munich were all linked with the winger, proving how promising he really is – something Steven Gerrard will have kept in mind.
This is excellent news, and with a good second half to this season with Raith, Kennedy could be back and ready to make an impact in the first-team at Ibrox.
