‘Disaster’ – BBC pundit slams Celtic as Premiership fixtures in doubt after Dubai nightmare

BBC pundit Michael Stewart has dubbed the latest Celtic nightmare a “disaster” after a player tested positive for COVID following their ‘warm weather training’ trip to Dubai.

Celtic were already coming in for huge amounts of criticism after photos emerged of Neil Lennon and the players drinking beer by a pool.

Nicola Sturgeon said aspects of the trip needed looking at.

And now, Celtic have put Premiership fixtures in doubt after the positive COVID test.

BBC pundit Stewart said on Twitter, “The Celtic player picking up a positive result for COVID is yet another disaster for the club.

“The trip to Dubai was ill-advised and the pictures from the trip just made matters worse, now this really does heap yet more pressure on the club. So many questions to answer.”

The Sun has reported that the entire Celtic squad could now be forced to isolate after the positive test.

The travel corridor with Dubai shut today with all returning travellers now being asked to quarantine.

And anyone returning since January 3 is being asked to self-isolate too.

The Sun claims Celtic may have lost their exemption status “amid concerns they failed to seek correct Government approval for their controversial trip.”

A decision is expected at lunchtime today.

Rangers

Big price to pay

22 points behind Rangers and Celtic lurch from one disaster to the next.

The SPFL will have a big decision to make if the Celtic squad is forced to isolate and miss fixtures.

They should default the games and be handed 3-0 defeats.

If the Celtic players aren’t forced to isolate and they go on to infect other players and jeopardise the future of the Premiership then the punishment should be even harsher.

As far as we’re concerned, Rangers have already won the league on the pitch.

Whether Celtic are docked points or not, the league is effectively over, but this is about more than that.

Celtic have shown a complete disregard for anyone but themselves and should pay a big price.

The SPFL must show that they can act objectively when they deal with them.
