Ibrox View: 94 passes, 97% accuracy – Gers ace blows roof off Pittodrie in 2-1 win

The display of Glen Kamara in the 2-1 win over Aberdeen on Sunday was yet another reminder of his abilities and further cements the Rangers midfielder at the top of the passing charts.

Victory at Pittodrie extended the Rangers lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 22 points over Celtic ahead of their game against Hibernian on Monday, and the title looks increasingly inevitable with Rangers making it 23 unbeaten in the league this season.

Key to this success has been the cool-head of Kamara who is quietly churning out some very impressive performances as he dictates play from the centre of midfield.

Against Aberdeen he completed 94 passes (WhoScored) which was a tally bettered only by Steven Davis (122) but no one could top his 97% pass accuracy as he missed just three of his passes.

Along with Davis he was also only dispossessed (once) which was the least number of times out of the Rangers starting midfield and attack.

This razor-sharp precision has been a consistent feature of Kamara’s campaign so far.

Per WhoScored 91.3% of Kamara’s passes have found a teammate this season which ranks him top in the Scottish Premiership (of players to record sufficient appearances).

Additionally he is sixth for average passes per game (68.6) in the Premiership showing he is not afraid to get on the ball for Rangers.

This is all helping Rangers to post the highest possession percentage in the Premiership (63%) as they dominate sides in the middle of midfield.

Wearing teams down with constant moving of the ball is an underrated quality which Kamara helps to instil in Steven Gerrard’s side.

Room for improvement?

There is one stat, however, that Kamara will be keen to improve.

The Finland international is still yet to register an assist this season so he will be desperate to change this and prove he can add a creative spark.

Of course there are other players in the Rangers system that are there to add drive and ingenuity but in a team as dominant as the Light Blues Kamara will still feel he can contribute more in direct attacking way.

If he can do this then Rangers will have one hell of a player on their hands.
