Rangers want to sign 19y/o forward who scored senior hat-trick last month – reliable journo

Rangers and Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Scottish youth international Kyle Joseph from Wigan.

According to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, the Gers could snap the young forward up on a free transfer in the summer with his contract at the League One side running out.

Due to the cross-border rules, Rangers could snatch themselves a bargain, with Nixon claiming that Wigan are currently quoting a ‘high fee’.

Nixon claims that Blackpool have already inquired but cooled their interest after learning of the potential price tag.

Perfect signing for Rangers

Steven Gerrard is likely to be in the market for another striker over the summer, so a deal to sign Joseph could be ideal for the Gers.

With Jermain Defoe’s immediate future still up in the air, Joseph could be the readymade replacement for the former England international.

The ex-Tottenham man, who turns 39 later this year, has previously admitted that he would like to try and play on until he turns 40.

Coming in as a third-choice striker at Ibrox means that Joseph may not be pushing for regular first-team minutes in the same way that somebody like Cedric Itten will.

However, Joseph’s form for Wigan this season has proven he is ready to take the step up in his game.

He has four league goals in 11 appearances for the Latics and despite being just 19 years of age, is quickly becoming a first-team regular. Last month, he netted a hat-trick in Wigan’s English League One win over Burton Albion.

While Rangers will want to strengthen their squad over the summer, the chance to land an exciting young Scottish talent on the cheap could be an opportunity too good to turn down.
