‘Outstanding’ – Dalglish hails ‘first-class’ Rangers star with bright future
Sir Kenny Dalglish has heaped praise on Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor after his recent good form helped the Gers extend their lead in the title race.
McGregor was the man of the match during the recent Old Firm clash at Ibrox as he single-handedly kept the Celtic attack at bay.
Dalglish believes that McGregor still has a bright future in football despite being 38-years-old while hailing his recent form.
Speaking in his Sunday Post column, Dalglish said, “It’s hard to see Allan McGregor conceding a goal right now.
“He was the difference in the Old Firm game last Saturday, and in his two spells at Ibrox, he has been first-class.
“He may be about to turn 39, but he remains an outstanding goalie. Indeed, Allan looks as though he’d be one of the very few to have a good future, even at his age!”
Before this season started it was unknown how much game time McGregor would be getting following the recruitment of Jon McLaughlin.
However, McGregor took his chances when they came and after impressing in the Europa League qualifiers he re-established himself as first-choice keeper at Ibrox.
There may be some concerns about the keeper’s fitness as he approaches 40 but he showed he still has plenty to give as he made and a handful of athletic saves in the Old Firm.
It is hard to see McLaughlin working his way back into the side with McGregor playing some of the best football of his life.
No-one except McGregor knows how long he will continue at Rangers but if he decides to call it a day after this season then he can hopefully look back on a fantastic campaign in which he helped Steven Gerrard bring silverware back to Ibrox.
His form over the past few weeks has certainly played a huge role in the club’s continuing league success.
