Exclusive: Alex McLeish hails impact of Rangers veteran after 2-1 win v Aberdeen
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has claimed that Allan McGregor will be imparting every last piece of his wisdom to the Rangers squad as they charge towards the title.
The 33-year-old started once again at Pittodrie on Sunday, as the Bears extended their lead to 22 points with a 2-1 win.
McLeish believes that having experienced figures such as McGregor in the changing room will be critical to Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I know what difference that makes having been in there and seeing the die-hards in the dressing room.
“If you want to become famous for this football club, you’ve got to be winning trophies, and with the guys in a good position now, it will be all that and Greegsy will be able to impart every experience he’s had as a Rangers player.”
McGregor has been nothing short of phenomenal this season.
Rangers have only conceded five goals in the Scottish Premiership, and two of those came when Jon McLaughlin was starting against Hibernian.
That means that the 33-year-old has only conceded four goals in 1260 minutes in the Scottish Premiership – one goal in every 315 minutes of action.
Steven Gerrard has hailed the impact of McGregor on the pitch, and McLeish has made it even better by praising his effect off it too – the keeper is surely irreplaceable at Ibrox.
