‘Embarrassment’, ‘Horrific’, ‘Atrocious’ – Many Rangers fans blast one player despite win v Dons

Rangers fans have destroyed right-back James Tavernier for his performance in the 2-1 win against Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday.

Tavernier, 29, missed a first-half penalty and later in the game, he was largely at fault for Derek McInnes’ side getting a goal.

Not only did Tavernier put his penalty wide of Joe Lewis’ goal, but he was also nowhere near the right position when Matty Kennedy scored in the 67th minute.

We get that he’s an attack-minded right-back but you still have to get back and defend when the opposition team presses forward.

Aberdeen are arguably the best team in Scotland outside of Glasgow so Tavernier cannot commit himself in attack as much as he would against some of the other teams in the Premiership.

He was well and truly found out in that part of the game and fans have rightly slammed him on social media for a poor display, with one saying that the right-back was an “absolute embarrassment” after the Dons’ goal.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Tavernier has still been our best player this season, let’s not forget that.

However, it doesn’t mean he’s immune to criticism and fans shouldn’t be afraid to hit out at the 29-year-old whenever he plays badly.

Tavernier will know as much as anyone he had a bad day at the office at Pittodrie.

Let’s hope he can bounce back from it sooner rather than later though because we have title number 55 to wrap up as soon as possible.
