‘That’s a scary number’ – Boyd makes Premiership prediction as Gers head to Pittodrie

Kris Boyd believes Rangers are out of touch at the top of the table and Celtic have no chance of catching them, according to his Scottish Sun column.

Rangers beat their Old Firm rivals 1-0 at Ibrox last weekend to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 19 points.

Steven Gerrard’s side play Aberdeen on Sunday before Celtic host Hibernian on Monday evening.

Therefore a Gers win at Pittodrie would increase their seemingly already unassailable lead ahead of Celtic’s next game and crank up the pressure on them even more.

As he writes in his column for the Scottish Sun, Boyd is convinced that Rangers have the Premiership title in the bag, saying “There could be a 22-point gap at the top of the table by the next time Celtic kick a ball.

“That’s a scary number and looks and sounds far more daunting than ten points. Listen, if you ask me the season is over regardless.”

He added: “In my book there will be no stopping them now. Celtic have lost touch with Rangers at the top of the table.”

Tough test but Rangers are well equipped

The trip to Pittodrie looks like one of the last remaining potential stumbling blocks as Rangers saunter their way to the Scottish Premiership title.

Aberdeen currently sit third and are unbeaten in their last seven Premiership matches since a 4-0 hammering at Ibrox on November 22.

The previous fixture between the sides on the first round of the campaign was a more marginal affair with Rangers edging past the Dons 1-0 courtesy of a Ryan Kent winner.

Though their record is incomparable to Rangers the key to Aberdeen’s recent good run has been their defensive displays as they have recorded four shut-outs in their last six games.

Gerrard’s side, though, will be confident that they can break their way through just as they have done in nearly every match this season.

A 0-0 draw at Livingston on August 18 remains the only time the Light Blues have failed to hit the back of the net and they will be aiming to continue their ruthless streak as they seek to extend their lead at the top to 22 points.
