Exclusive: Alex McLeish predicts Aberdeen clash, claims Rangers must be ready for ‘battle’
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has backed Rangers to beat Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon and continue their incredible run in the Scottish Premiership.
Steven Gerrard knows that a victory would see his side go 22 points clear ahead of Celtic, who don’t play until Monday after their trip to Dubai.
Without picking a score, McLeish has admitted that Derek McInnes has done a superb job at Pittodrie, and believes the Bears will have to go into battle to get the three points.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “Aberdeen have always been a thorn in Rangers’ leg for years.
“It’s changed now, and you’re seeing the domination of the Old Firm again, and you would expect them to go and win.
“These are the type of games, winning these ones gives you so much strength in terms of the league. The Dons are such a hard nut to crack.
“What a job Derek has done. Anyone going to Aberdeen has to be ready for a battle.”
There is no point to look back at the previous meeting in the 4-0 clash at Ibrox, as the Dons were missing plenty of players due to COVID-19.
McInnes’ men are unbeaten in six and have the best recent record outside of the Bears in the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers will need to keep the likes of Lewis Ferguson quiet, who will be wanting to impress the Gers and Gerrard ahead of a potential move to Ibrox.
This is time to send out another massive message to the likes of Celtic, who will be disheartened as it is after last week – bring it on.
