‘Not making excuses’ – McCoist pins down Celtic diehard Alan Brazil for honest verdict on Dubai

Celtic diehard Alan Brazil has said that while the club’s trip to Dubai was probably organised a “long time ago”, he thinks in hindsight it was the wrong thing to do.

Celtic have come under huge criticism for jetting off to Dubai for what’s been loosely called a ‘warm-weather training camp’ while the country is in lockdown because of the Coronavirus.

Pictures of players and Neil Lennon supping pints by the pool haven’t done them any favours.

Bill Leckie said that the SPFL had a lot to answer for after agreeing to rearrange Celtic’s weekend fixture. And Nicola Sturgeon said that the trip should be looked at.

Talking on the Breakfast show (talkSPORT, Thursday, 9.30am), Ally McCoist asked Brazil for his honest opinion on the trip.

“I’m not making excuses,” Brazil said. “It was probably arranged a long time ago.

“But, in hindsight, it was probably the wrong thing to do. Seeing the carry on with footballers and celebrities at the moment.

“I can’t even go to my granddaughter’s birthday party today.”

Trouble in paradise

Celtic are 19 points behind Rangers and played the first half of this season like they were already on the beach.

And, while it might have been arranged a long time ago, the fact that it wasn’t cancelled in the light of what’s going on in the country shows an alarming lack of awareness at the club.

More worrying is the bias shown towards Celtic from the SPFL who have steadfastly refused to rearrange fixtures for other clubs while giving Neil Lennon’s side a free pass.

It means that Celtic are making the headlines for all the wrong reasons in a season when they hoped to make history.

Their bid for 10-in-a-row was always flawed but they’ve blown up in a sensational way.

We imagine there are going to be some big questions to answer when they come back from their jolly, too.

When Celtic lose people like Brazil, they must know they’ve messed up.
