Rangers transfer target Marijan Cabraja has been linked with a move to Dinamo Zagreb, report Croatian outlet Sportske.
That decision was made in anticipation of more offers being made for the Croatian, but Rangers have not yet submitted an official bid.
Cabraja’s agent was coy on that matter but the player himself made it clear that contact had been established.
If true, Rangers must press ahead with their initial interest.
Steven Gerrard has had little to say on the transfer front but there have been suggestions that he will look to players that can serve his side in the long-term.
At 23, Cabraja fits that mould, and he will be eager to follow in the footsteps of Borna Barisic.
His compatriot could help him settle, and that could be vital since he has no experience outside of Croatia.
Moreover, a look at Cabraja’s performances shows he could have an impact right away.
Per Wyscout this season, the left-back has averaged an impressive 6.5 interceptions per game, and has won 51% of his defensive duels.
Cabraja is playing at a lower standard currently but now is the right time to pinch him from HNK Gorica.
The interest from Dinamo Zagreb could turn his head, and with 18 months left on his contract Rangers still have an opportunity to sign him at a good price.
It is possible that Barisic could leave in the near future, too, having received interest from the likes of Leeds, Napoli and Roma.
Rangers do have a promising young full-back in Calvin Bassey, but the addition of Cabraja would offer exciting competition.
In other Rangers news, RB Leipzig are showing an interest in an in-form Gers player.
