‘Stories were circulating…’ – Rangers ace speaks out over recent transfer speculation

Rangers defender Borna Barisic has claimed that he is concentrating on his Gers career amid reports linking the Croatian with a move away from Ibrox.

Football Insider recently reported that West Ham were looking at Barisic ahead of the January window and the 28-year-old claims that he is aware of such stories.

But, speaking to Croatian outlet, Sportske Novosti, Barisic claimed that he is ‘very satisfied’ at Rangers at the moment.

He said, “I am concentrating on Rangers and I said that many times when stories were circulating about me.

“We are playing a great season, we have a great team. Everything is at a top level and I am very satisfied. The path I am taking is good for my career advancement.

“For me, 2021 is a big year. A lot will happen with me as far as Euro 2020 and Rangers are concerned. It’s a year of great opportunities and challenges for me.”

Barisic started this season in incredible form as the defender picked up one goal and two assists in his first three Scottish Premiership games this term.

This came alongside the Gers’ record-breaking defensive start to the season as they went seven league games without conceding a goal.

There is no doubting Barisic’s quality, though he does have an alarming habit of switching off defensively in key games as we saw over Christmas, but he has a very strong understudy.

Calvin Bassey has done a sterling job on his limited outings in the first team since his summer move to Ibrox and if Barisic was to leave, it seems as though the club may already have a replacement.

No Rangers fan will want to see the Croatian leave in January and with the very real prospect of a Scottish Premiership title medal heading his way, why would Barisic want to go?
