Celtic have potentially got themselves into a whole heap of trouble for their ‘essential’ trip to Dubai and it’s Neil Lennon who has dropped them in it.
With the country in lockdown, Celtic have turned heads for all the wrong reasons with shots of Lennon supping pints by a pool.
Nicola Sturgeon has raised big questions already.
Talking to the BBC, she said, “For me, the question for Celtic is what is the purpose of them being there. I’ve seen comments from the club that it’s more for R&R than training.
“I have also seen some photographs – and I don’t know the full circumstances – that would raise a question in my mind about whether all the rules elite players have to follow in their bubble around social distancing are being complied with.”
She said that the trip would be looked into.
And Lennon might have dropped a huge clanger when he was talking after the 1-0 defeat to Rangers at the weekend.
He said, “Listen, we lost this time last year and went on a brilliant run. A wee bit of warm weather, let them get some R&R and then come back and refresh and go again.”
That really is going to get the suits at Celtic worried.
And it’s got plenty of Rangers fans talking with one saying, the “SPFL have to throw the book at Celtic.”
Another said that they couldn’t argue with any “punishment coming their way”.
In a season that’s already been catastrophic, it looks like things could be about to get much worse.

They can’t even argue against any punishment that should be coming their way.

R&R ant not intense training as claimed. Not essential and therefore abusing elite sports privileges and blatantly disregarding covid SPFL, SFA and JRG protocols for elite sportsmen

It certainly wasn’t deemed essential by the other 11 ‘elite’ clubs in the premiership

@NicolaSturgeon @spfl @ScottishFA . No further investigation required . As they say straight from the horses mouth . Can I go visit my friends / family for some R&R and a few pints ? Didn’t think so 🤔@SkySportsNews @ClydeSSB https://t.co/V69tHKhqdf

@ClydeSSB @ScotGovFM @ScottishFA R&R. No training. Blatant disregard for the rules. I'm sure the appropriate action will be taken against them. Not anyone else, just the club who think they are untouchable. https://t.co/PNzIGLTRWs

Absolutely ridiculous if they get away with this. We're in full lockdown and they're away for a bit of sunshine in Dubai?? https://t.co/wttF6Lfq0I
